Eight of a family, including three children, were killed after a sand-laden truck toppled over a roadside hut in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning in Mallawan town when the truck, transporting sand from the Ganga riverbanks to Hardoi, lost control on a turn due to its heavy load and crushed the hut where the family was sleeping.

The family, which usually slept by the roadside, was caught off guard as the truck overturned. Initial confusion gave way to horror as the local community realised that the Bhalla Kanjar family’s hut was buried under the sand. 

Police were alerted and a rescue operation commenced, involving a JCB to lift the truck and clear the sand. The bodies recovered included Bhalla Kanjar, his wife Munni, their daughters Suneman, Lalla, Buddhu, son-in-law Karan from Kasupet Bilgram, his wife Hiro and son Komal. The couple’s daughter Bittu survived but was found injured.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the truck’s route from Mehndi Ghat,  Kannauj to Hardoi and the circumstances leading to the overload that caused the fatal accident.

In another incident,  three individuals died when a car crashed into a stationary concrete mixer truck which was followed by a collision with a Tata Ace vehicle.  The accident occurred on the Vijayawada-Guntur highway in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as K. Rambabu (40), Teja (21), and D. Madhu (25). Two of the victims were passengers in the Tata Ace, which was transporting decoration workers and died at the scene. The third victim succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Guntur.

The car driver, who failed to notice the concrete mixer truck stopped for repairs, collided with it from behind, causing the truck to move into the road’s middle. Subsequently, the Tata Ace vehicle also struck the truck. In addition to the fatalities, several individuals were injured in the accident, with three car passengers being hospitalised in Guntur.

The Tata Ace was carrying approximately 15 workers returning from an event where they had been involved in decoration work. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the the collisions.
