Following the death of a man, two women claiming to be his wives arrived outside the post-mortem house to claim his body. Both created a commotion for a considerable time, but a compromise was eventually reached after police intervention. The last rites were subsequently performed in the presence of the police.
The Incident
Sachin, a resident of Mohalla Nai Basti under the Kotwali police station area, had consumed poison two days ago. He passed away yesterday while undergoing treatment at the Medical College. On Friday, while his post-mortem was being conducted, his two wives arrived at the mortuary to claim custody of the body.
Family Background
The first wife, Mamta, stated that she married Sachin in 1996 and they have three children together. She explained that some time later, Sachin fell in love with a woman named Kavita and began living with her.
Sachin's mother revealed that when her son brought the second wife home, she transferred the ownership of their house to her grandson (Sachin's son). When she asked her son not to keep the second wife in the house, Sachin left the home and moved away with Kavita.
The Standoff And Resolution
Sachin's mother and first wife were informed yesterday by someone that Sachin was ill. When they arrived at the Medical College with the children, they discovered that he had already passed away. Meanwhile, the second wife, Kavita, was also adamant about taking the body. This led to a heated dispute between the two women outside the post-mortem house.
Upon receiving information, police from the Medical outpost arrived at the scene. After significant effort and persuasion, the police managed to broker a compromise between the two parties. Both wives and their relatives then accompanied the body to the cremation ground outside Baragaon Gate, where the final rites were performed under police supervision.
