Kanpur News: A group of children playing cricket in Surya Vihar Society, Makdikheda, Uttar Pradesh, were left astonished when they spotted a crocodile emerging from a nearby drain on Saturday afternoon. Startled by the unexpected visitor, they immediately informed adults, who in turn contacted local authorities.

Initially, panic spread as the crocodile was spotted, but the atmosphere soon shifted to one of curiosity as locals flocked to see the unexpected visitor. Videos and photos circulated on social media, capturing the crocodile tied up and with its mouth wide open.

According to residents, the area is located near the Ganga river and such incidents are common during the rainy season when crocodiles occasionally stray into residential areas. Despite the initial fear, the situation was handled calmly.

After several hours of effort, the locals managed to restrain the crocodile using ropes. Forest officials were called in and later transported the animal to a nearby zoo for its safety.

In separate news, a 28-year-old PhD student, Pragati Kharya, from IIT Kanpur’s Earth Sciences department, was found dead in her hostel room on Thursday, marking the fourth student suicide at the institute within a year. Police reported that Kharya had hanged herself, and a rope ordered online was recovered. A suicide note was found, with no one blamed for her actions. Her body has been sent for post-mortem, and her family has arrived. IIT-K expressed its condolences, mourning the loss of a promising researcher. Investigations are ongoing, with forensic teams collecting evidence.
