Kanpur Ring Road: The massive 93-kilometre ring road that's set to transform how the city moves promises to alleviate the city's usual traffic. This ambitious project is funded by the central government with a whopping Rs 4,077 crore.

The final piece, Package 2-A, has been handed over to a Russian company, LLC Multi Inter Regional, and construction is already underway after getting the green light from the Home Ministry.

Under Package 2-A, an 8-kilometre road linking Mandhna-Bithur to Trans Ganga City, at a total cost of Rs 972.93 crore, will be built. Out of this, Rs 98.54 crore has already gone toward buying the needed land from locals.

The road, featuring a 3.5-km bridge right over the Ganga River and an overbridge crossing railway tracks, will act as a lifeline for the city's commuters.

NOC Held The Project Back

The tender was released in February 2025 but was scrapped due to technical glitches. A fresh round started in March and was wrapped up by July. The Russian firm needed a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Home Ministry. Once that arrived in October, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed the deal, and the company started work on October 1.

How's The Ring Road Shaping Up?

Here's a straightforward look at each section's progress.

-Package-1 (23.32 km: Sachendi to Maharajpur): With already 5 km done, the rest is being worked upon. Total cost is Rs 854.60 crore (including Rs 593.63 crore for land). This stretch will help bypass busy northern routes.

-Package-2-A (8.775 km: Mandhna to Trans Ganga City): As mentioned, the Ganga-spanning bridge makes it the most challenging task, with multiple interchanges (like highway exits). Russian firm LLC Multi Inter Regional is in charge.

-Package-3 (17.45 km: Badarka to Harvans-Ucheti): Handled by Hilwez Company (from Rishikesh), connects to the Defence Corridor, Chakari Airport, and the Prayagraj Highway. Over 25% work has been completed.

-Package-4 (24.55 km: Jarkala to Pakri): The ground levelling work is completed. Raj Construction Company is building this part, linking up the eastern parts of the city
