With in-principle approval from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has cleared the way for major road development in Kanpur district. In the first phase, construction of 21 critical roads has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 530 crore, aimed at improving traffic flow, boosting regional connectivity, and promoting tourism.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has received a directive from its headquarters to submit a detailed project report (DPR) for each road to facilitate budget allocation and technical approvals. The DPRs are currently being prepared and are expected to be submitted soon.
In this phase, three important road proposals have been approved from each of Kanpur’s 10 assembly constituencies. These projects are considered vital for regional development and include connections to the Defence Corridor, key religious routes like Shobhan Mandir Road, and several roads in rural areas of Bithoor, Bilhaur, and Maharajpur.

According to PWD Executive Engineer Anup Kumar Mishra, the selection of roads was based on traffic importance, connectivity potential, and developmental impact. -Widening and strengthening of the road from Bakarmandi Rawatpur to Keshav Nagar Armapur culvert

These infrastructure upgrades are part of a larger Rs 5,000 crore road development plan, recently reviewed by the Chief Minister in a meeting with public representatives. Officials have indicated that the remaining proposals under this broader plan will be rolled out in phased approvals.
Once completed, the projects are expected to significantly enhance rural-urban connectivity, ease regional traffic, and support economic and tourism growth across Kanpur district.
