Lucknow Fire: A massive fire broke out in the basement of a shop, Awasthi Sweet House at Matiyari Chowk, Lucknow, late Tuesday night. The fire caused panic throughout the area. Employees in the basement managed to escape, while two people trapped inside for some time due to smoke were rescued safely by police and firefighters by breaking a wall.

Residents on the upper floors of the building also quickly evacuated, evading a major disaster. Residents reported seeing smoke suddenly coming out of the basement. Before employees could react, the fire escalated, filling the entire basement with thick smoke.

The flames began to rise, causing panic among families living on the upper floors. People ran out of their homes with their children. Within minutes, the entire area was filled with suffocating smoke. Four fire engines arrived at the scene immediately.

Firefighters Break Wall To Rescue Trapped Staff

Chinhat Police Station in-charge Inspector Dinesh Chandra Mishra also arrived at the scene with the police force. The fire had spread throughout the house and shop of Awasthi Sweets owner Awadhesh Awasthi. Firefighters broke through the wall of the house, creating a way inside, and safely rescued trapped people.

Firefighters brought the fire under control after approximately one and a half hours of hard work. Fortunately, no one was killed, although the goods stored in the basement were destroyed and the shop suffered significant damage.

Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Ankush Mittal stated that a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. An investigation will also be conducted by the electrical department to confirm the cause. People present at the scene stated that if the fire had continued to spread, the entire house could have been engulfed.

Nearby Shops Engulfed

Inspector Chinhat stated that the flames were so intense that they engulfed the surrounding shops. Firefighters arrived at the scene and began controlling the fire quickly.

Due to the sudden fire and the chaos that ensued at night, traffic at Matiyari intersection was disrupted for a considerable time. Police managed to clear the traffic jam by creating a one-way street.
