To address the growing electricity demand in Gomti Nagar, two new power substations are being constructed in Vishesh Khand and Vinamra Khand for Rs 20 crore in Lucknow. The project, once completed, will improve power supply for over 45,000 consumers across all six existing substations in the area.

Currently, substations located in Vipin Khand, Mantri Awas, Gwari, Vishwas Khand, Viraj Khand, and Vibhuti Khand are operating at full capacity, leaving no room for additional transformers. This often leads to technical faults and rostering during peak demand periods.

According to Dheeraj Yadav, Executive Engineer of the Gomti Nagar division, the new substations will be spread over 750 square metres in Vishesh Khand and 1,200 square metres in Vinamra Khand. Each will have two 10 MVA power transformers, with space reserved for future expansion. “Once operational, these substations will eliminate electricity supply issues in the Gomti Nagar area for the next eight to ten years,” Yadav said.

The tender process for the project is expected to conclude within three months, with construction slated to begin by December 2025. The substations are targeted to become operational by May 2026. Both are being developed under the Business Plan scheme.
