Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: Travelling between Lucknow and Kanpur via the upcoming expressway will cost more than the existing national highway route. As per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), toll charges on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will be 25 per cent higher than current tolls collected on the national highway. These rates will come into effect from the first day of the expressway's operation.

Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: Private Cars To Pay Rs 125; Trucks To Be Charged Over Rs 400 One-Way

At present, drivers of private vehicles pay Rs 100 for a one-way trip on the national highway between the two cities. On the new expressway, this will increase to Rs 125. Similarly, truck operators, who currently pay Rs 330, will need to shell out approximately Rs 413. The hike will result in significantly more revenue for NHAI once the expressway opens.

Expressway Set For July Completion, Grace Period Till October

The 63-kilometre-long expressway is expected to be completed by July 31, 2025. However, NHAI has set a grace period till October 31 to accommodate any last-minute work. Officials said that around 94 percent of greenfield construction is done, while elevated sections are over 90 percent complete. Final touch-up work is underway by the implementation agency.

Five Toll Plazas Proposed Along 63-km Route

A key area of focus is the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Amarsas in Unnao district, where some railway-related work remains incomplete. Three flyovers are also being constructed on the route. According to officials, toll plazas are proposed at five locations — Miranpur Pinwat, Khandedev, Bani, Amarsas (near Unnao-Lalganj) and Azad Nagar. These tolls will be built on slip roads, and commuters will pay at only one location during a trip.

Petrol Pumps, EV Charging, CCTV, Ambulances To Be Provided

While the toll will be costlier, NHAI has promised several facilities to enhance the travel experience. Petrol pumps and electric vehicle charging stations will be installed at all toll plazas. Ambulances and police pickets will be stationed at each toll point to respond to emergencies. CCTV cameras will be installed across the entire expressway. The highway authority is also working on a phased plan to allow private players to open restaurants and dhabas along the route.
