Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is being constructed using Automated Intelligence Machine Guided Construction (AIMGC) technology—an advanced technique previously used only in the United States and Germany.

This marks the first use of such cutting-edge technology in India’s road construction sector. The system ensures that construction materials are used in the exact prescribed quantity and quality, alerting officials instantly if there's any discrepancy.

Out of the total 63 km stretch, a 45 km greenfield section between Bani and Kanpur is being developed using AIMGC, GPS, and 3D technology to deliver a smoother, longer-lasting expressway.

This high-precision approach will ensure a completely flat road surface and significantly enhance durability. Built at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, this expressway will be India’s shortest, but among the most advanced in terms of construction quality. Prior to the project launch, NHAI officials visited Los Angeles to study American expressway models.

The greenfield segment is being constructed with support from Trimble, a US-based firm. Construction machinery has been fitted with GPS-enabled devices synced with 3D models, allowing constant monitoring of material layers and ensuring precision in execution.

The system also guides where underpasses and cuts need to be made. NHAI Regional Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia stated that this expressway is expected to remain damage-free for at least ten years.
