In a major step toward improving urban transport infrastructure, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has approved the development of a modern integrated city bus terminal and commercial zone in Lucknow. The project, to be developed on 7.06 acres of land under the Vrindavan Yojana's P-4 parking area, received cabinet clearance on Thursday.
The project site, currently used for parking and maintenance of buses, was purchased by the Urban Transport Directorate from the Housing and Development Council for Rs 160 crore. The upcoming terminal will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 380 crore, excluding the cost of land.

Key Features of the Terminal:
-Parking facility for 275 cars
-Air-conditioned waiting halls and passenger lounges
-Enquiry, booking, and reservation counters
-Cloakroom and parcel room
-Food kiosks and eateries
-Toilets and urinals for men and women
-Water ATMs, medical aid room, creche, bank/ATM, police booth, and security control room
The terminal is expected to significantly streamline city transport, improving operations of 141 existing e-buses and 52 CNG buses, with provisions for 150 additional e-buses in the future.
The project will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The land will be leased to a private developer for 60 years, who will be responsible for designing, obtaining necessary approvals, investing, constructing, and operating the facility. The terminal must be completed within 36 months, while commercial spaces will be developed over 60 months. Upon completion of the lease period, all assets will revert to the government.
Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Amrit Abhijat, stated that the objective is to ensure organised, efficient bus operations while providing passengers with state-of-the-art amenities. The private developer will be selected through a transparent, competitive bidding process, based on the highest annual concessional fee, which will increase by 10 per cent every three years.
The project is expected to ease traffic congestion in the capital while delivering a modern and accessible public transport experience to commuters.
