The Lucknow Police have adopted a strict stance against habitual traffic rule violators, announcing stringent measures as part of “Traffic Month,” which began on November 1. During the launch event at the Police Lines on Monday, senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Traffic, unveiled a detailed action plan to curb road violations in the state capital.
Under the new enforcement policy, vehicles with more than five unpaid challans will face cancellation of registration, while licences of repeat offenders will also be revoked. Authorities have also engaged the Lucknow Development Authority and the Municipal Corporation to improve road engineering and traffic infrastructure across the city.
The month-long drive aims to spread awareness about road safety. Police personnel are administering oaths to citizens to follow traffic rules and are stressing the importance of helmets and seat belts. Officers will interact with commuters at major intersections to promote safe driving practices, with support from school students, NCC cadets, and various social organisations.
Officials highlighted rampant violations in the city, including speeding, triple-riding on two-wheelers, talking on the phone while driving, and riding without helmets. Despite previous directives barring petrol pumps from supplying fuel to helmetless riders, flouting continues unchecked.
DCP Traffic Kamlesh Dixit said strict action is underway against offenders and confirmed that police officers found breaking rules will also face departmental action. He urged citizens to follow traffic norms to ensure safer roads for all.
