To facilitate the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at the Kesari Kheda railway crossing in Lucknow, the crossing is likely to remain closed for six months. The Setu Nigam has written to the District Magistrate, seeking formal permission for the closure, and has also informed Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and local MP representative Diwakar Tripathi.

Once the green signal is received, the construction agency will begin building a 52,910-meter-long section over the railway line. The estimated cost for this portion of the project is Rs 29 crore, while the total ROB is being constructed at a cost of Rs 78 crore.

The construction work—stalled earlier—has recently regained momentum. Notably, a portion of resident Rajesh Yadav’s house was also affected by the ROB project, with two and a half floors collapsing up to 4.25 meters. The district administration has since expedited the compensation process for affected property owners.

With the closure of the railway crossing, commuters will have to take alternate routes. As per the preliminary traffic management plan proposed by Setu Nigam:

-Small and light vehicles may move under or over the bridge towards Manak Nagar.

-Heavy vehicles will be diverted via Awadh Square, connecting Para to Krishna Nagar.

-From Krishna Nagar, vehicles can access Para via the RDSO route.

However, officials clarified that this traffic diversion plan is provisional and subject to approval and revisions by the traffic police.

The Kesari Kheda crossing is one of the busiest in the region. According to railway operations officials:

-Over 100 passenger trains, including Vaishali Express, Shatabdi, Pushpak Express, and Tejas, pass through the route daily.

-Additionally, around 40 goods trains operate on the same stretch every 24 hours.

To carry out the construction of overactive tracks, Setu Nigam will seek track blocks from the railway authorities. During these periods, trains will be temporarily halted at outer signals of nearby stations to allow girder placement and overhead work.
