In a bid to simplify address identification and improve civic administration, every house in Lucknow will soon be allotted a unique number, which will also be prominently displayed on building maps. The move is expected to ease postal delivery, disaster management, and various administrative processes.
Chairing a review meeting at the Smart City auditorium, Minister for Finance and Parliamentary Affairs and Lucknow’s minister in charge, Suresh Khanna, instructed Municipal Corporation officials to ensure transparency and timely execution of development projects. The meeting was attended by the Mayor, MLAs, and senior officials.
Khanna directed officials to rebore faulty handpumps, prepare fresh proposals for budget-based works, and create a dedicated patchwork team to address potholes promptly.
The minister reviewed road sweeping, night sweeping, and waste collection operations. He appreciated the night sweeping system and stressed that daily cleaning and strict monitoring be ensured to boost the city’s cleanliness rankings. He further instructed officials to curb illegal parking, identify designated parking spaces, and act against encroachments on roads.
Khanna also called for forming a Sanitation Promotion Committee to strengthen citizen participation at the local level. The rent department has been asked to review revenue collection and implement a fixed formula by December 31. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation will develop and maintain its own street-light lining system for smoother functioning.
An argument broke out during the meeting between Mayor Sushma Kharkwal and Bakshi Ka Talab MLA Yogesh Shukla over halted road construction in Bharwara. Shukla alleged that he was excluded from the inauguration ceremonies attended by the Mayor and SP councillors. The Mayor responded that all councillors were her responsibility and that development work is prioritised based on public needs. The minister intervened and said political issues should be discussed separately.

Without naming anyone, Khanna also cautioned officials amid ongoing friction between the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner. He said any officer failing to deliver would face action, adding that public accountability lies with everyone.
MLAs additionally raised concerns about severe traffic jams, particularly near Chhatha Meel and Polytechnic Road.
