A police car that was part of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s convoy lost control and crashed into two parked cars while trying to avoid a dog on the road near near Arjunganj in Lucknow on Saturday evening. The accident left two women dead and 14 people injured, including six policemen. One of the policemen, constable Vijay Kushwaha, is in critical condition.

CM Yogi Adityanath visited the injured at the hospital on Sunday morning and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He also ordered an inquiry into the incident and promised to provide compensation to the victims.

The police car, a Sumo, was an anti-demo vehicle that was following an interceptor, a radar-equipped vehicle that leads the convoy and warns the vehicles behind of any obstacles or traffic. According to JCP Upendra Kumar Aggarwal, the interceptor detected a dog on the road near the temple and alerted the Sumo, but the Sumo was unable to slow down and swerved into the cars on the roadside.

Police administration moved into action as soon as they received the information about the accident. They rushed the injured to the Civil Hospital, where some of them were referred to the Trauma Center and the Lohia Institute for further treatment. The JCP said that everyone is currently undergoing treatment and their condition is being monitored.

The deceased were identified as Priya (14) and Neelam (35). The injured policemen were Shivam Yadav, Avadh Narayan, Ram Singh, Vijay Pratap Yadav, Mohammad Shamim and Vijay Kushwaha. The other injured were Karthik, Hasnain, Amsha Siddiqui, Shehnaz, Khalid Azam and Sushila, who were either drivers or passengers of the cars that were hit by the Sumo.

The incident has raised questions about the safety and security of the Chief Minister’s convoy and the public. The Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad, DGP Prashant Kumar, Police Commissioner Lucknow SB Shiradkar, JCP Upendra Kumar Aggarwal and other senior officials reached the spot and the hospital to oversee the rescue and relief operations. They also assured that the guilty will be punished and preventive measures will be taken to avoid such accidents in the future.
