Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow is set to introduce six key medical departments, including Pediatric Nephrology and Infectious Diseases, in May. To facilitate this expansion, 59 regular doctor positions will be filled, with interviews beginning on April 1. A total of 121 applications have been received nationwide.

According to SGPGI Director Prof RK Dhiman, no government medical institute in the state currently has a dedicated department for pediatric kidney diseases. The Pediatric Nephrology Department will feature 20 beds, a ventilator, and dialysis facilities, along with a three-year Doctorate of Medicine (DM) course to train specialists.

Apart from Pediatric Nephrology and Infectious Diseases, other departments set to launch include Head and Neck Surgery, Medical Oncology, Pediatric Endocrinology, and Nephrology ADC. With these new additions, patients from Lucknow and across Uttar Pradesh will no longer need to travel to Delhi or Mumbai for specialised treatment.

Prof Dhiman emphasised that SGPGI aims to be among the top three medical institutes in the country for quality healthcare in the next two years. The institute is also progressing rapidly on the construction of the Advanced Pediatric Center, part of the Chief Minister’s vision, which is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Additionally, SGPGI is strengthening its Advanced Diabetic Center, which was recently completed on schedule. The maximum applications for recruitment have been received for the Anesthesiology Department, followed by Head and Neck Surgery and Infectious Diseases.

This initiative aligns with the government's goal of enhancing advanced medical treatment in Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing SGPGI's reputation as a premier institution for complex disease management.
