Construction on the 130-km Meerut-Badaun section of the 594-km Ganga Expressway is in its final stages, with the roadway ready for travel except for a two-kilometre stretch in Simbhavli, Hapur district, where work on one railway overbridge and three adjoining bridge approaches remains incomplete due to a shortage of soil.
Officials from UPEDA’s Project Implementation Unit and operating agency IRB Infrastructure said the pending work is being fast-tracked and all four structures will be opened for traffic by December 20. The rest of the corridor, excluding this affected segment, is fully prepared, with streetlights, reflective road markings, CCTV cameras, speed meters, a control room, and internet connectivity already installed.

The delay in Simbhavli stems from its low-lying terrain and severe monsoon waterlogging, which halted construction for months. Soil is now being transported from 15-30 km away, and officials expect earth-filling to finish within ten days, followed by the laying of asphalt.
“This area will be ready for vehicles even before 20 December,” said Rakesh Kumar Moga, XEN, UPEDA PIU.

The expressway’s entry point in Meerut is at Bijauli village on Hapur Road. Welcome signage, indicator boards, speed meters, and white reflective strips have been installed along the entire route to Badaun. A toll plaza has been constructed at Kharkhari, with installation of toll equipment currently underway. CCTV-equipped control rooms are also operational.
