A BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr was injured after his Fortuner crashed into a roadside pole on the Ganga Expressway, with CCTV footage capturing the vehicle skidding out of control before the collision.
Chandrapal Singh Lodhi, the MLA from Dibaai, was travelling along the expressway when the vehicle’s tyre burst, causing the Fortuner to lose control and veer off the road. Another person travelling in the vehicle was also injured. The two were initially taken to a private hospital in Hapur for treatment.

Footage of the crash shows the SUV moving along the expressway before suddenly skidding towards the roadside and eventually slamming into a pole. Reports have differed on the exact number of people injured and the MLA’s subsequent treatment, with some reporting that he was later taken to Delhi’s AIIMS.

The accident has drawn attention to the difficult conditions on parts of the Ganga Expressway, where water accumulation has disrupted movement amid prolonged rainfall.
Sonik Toll Plaza Goes Underwater
Further along the expressway, the Sonik toll plaza in Unnao has been badly affected by waterlogging following around two days of rain.
Water has reportedly reached several feet at parts of the toll plaza, leaving toll cabins submerged and forcing vehicles to wait before crossing the affected stretch. A trailer truck also became stranded on the service road after water entered its engine.
The waterlogging has disrupted commuters travelling towards Prayagraj, with motorists reportedly waiting for conditions to improve before proceeding through the area.
Pumps, JCB Deployed To Clear Water
The agency responsible for the expressway has deployed three generators, operated with tractors, to pump out the accumulated water. A JCB has also been brought in to create a pit near the service road to divert water away from the toll plaza.

However, the water level has remained high despite several hours of efforts.
The Sonik toll plaza has faced similar waterlogging during previous spells of heavy rain. The recurrence has brought renewed attention to drainage arrangements at the site. The Ganga Expressway, which connects Meerut with Prayagraj over roughly 594 km, has previously seen water accumulate at the same toll plaza.
