Meerut DM List: When India gained independence in 1947, the nation faced the daunting task of building governance across its vast regions. Meerut district, with its historic significance, saw IAS officer Jai Kirat Singh take charge as its first Collector. Leading the district immediately after independence was no easy task, yet Singh managed it with dedication, serving for 22 months and 15 days from 15 August 1947 to 30 June 1949. Since then, Meerut has had a total of 61 District Magistrates, with Dr. V.K. Singh currently holding the position.

The history of Meerut district dates back even further. According to Jagran.com, Maratha king Daulat Rao Scindia handed over this region to the East India Company in 1803. The British established the Meerut Cantonment in 1806 and officially declared it a district in 1818.
