In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, the Meerut police and Cyber Cell have arrested 17 accused, including Sajil Ansari, son of gang leader Shahid Ansari alias Jansathiya, and his brother-in-law Nafis, who were running cyber scams from locations in West Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
The accused operated a call centre from a house in Bank Colony, Meerut, defrauding victims abroad and allegedly causing losses amounting to crores. Investigations suggest that call centres recently functioning in Mawana and Lisarigate were also linked to Shahid Ansari’s network. Earlier, Shahid’s other son, Sajid Ansari, had been jailed in Noida for similar cyber fraud activities.

The arrests were made during a joint operation by the Cyber Cell and Nauchandi police on Tuesday night. Shahid Ansari, a former Samajwadi Party candidate for Ward 80 in the municipal corporation elections, remains at large. Authorities are investigating his extensive network, which reportedly includes hundreds of youths involved in cyber fraud in Noida, Delhi, and Meerut.
SSP Dr Vipin Tada confirmed that two call centres in Lisarigate and Mawana, connected to overseas fraud, have been dismantled. Police are interrogating the arrested suspects to trace the operations of Shahid Ansari’s cyber fraud network and identify other locations where call centres may have been functioning.
