Russian President Vladimir Putin called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend warm wishes on his 75th birthday, while also discussing the ongoing Ukraine conflict. PM Modi acknowledged the call in a post on X, “Thank you, my friend, President Putin, for your phone call and warm wishes on my 75th birthday. We are committed to further strengthening our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. India is ready to make all possible contributions towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”

Earlier in the day, the Kremlin released a statement noting Putin’s admiration for Modi’s tenure. Putin emphasized that India, under Modi’s leadership, has seen remarkable strides in economic, social, scientific, and technological fields. He also praised Modi’s personal role in deepening the India-Russia relationship.
“Your work as head of government has earned you great respect from your compatriots and enormous prestige on the international stage. Under your guidance, India has achieved impressive results in the social, economic, scientific, and technological spheres,” Putin said in his message.
Trump’s Call Highlights India’s Role
The Putin-Modi conversation came close on the heels of a call between Modi and US President Donald Trump. On Truth Social, Trump said he had a “wonderful” phone call with Modi on Tuesday. He conveyed birthday greetings and lauded India’s contribution to peace efforts amid the Russia-Ukraine war.
“Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a very Happy Birthday! He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra: Thank you for your support on ending the War between Russia and Ukraine! President DJT,” Trump posted, signing off with his initials.
