The Meerut traffic police on Monday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive on Delhi Road, clearing vehicles, carts, handcarts, and other obstructions along the stretch from Mehtab Cinema to the Football Roundabout. The operation, led by SP Traffic Raghvendra Mishra, targeted items placed beyond the drain line and roadside encroachments that were disrupting traffic flow.
During the afternoon drive, police removed goods displayed on the roadsides and prepared a list of shopkeepers involved. The entire action was recorded on video. Trucks and other vehicles parked illegally were issued challans, while shopkeepers with multiple vehicles in front of their establishments were instructed to keep them within the designated white line. Over 45 vehicles were fined in the operation.

SP Traffic Mishra warned that repeated encroachments would lead to FIRs against shopkeepers, and added that the drive would continue to ensure smooth movement on Delhi Road.
Two private buses parked opposite Sai Mandir were also issued fines. Though they were scheduled to depart from Mawana Stand for Saharanpur, they were found picking up passengers from Begumpul. While their documents were in order, the SP Traffic warned the drivers that repeated violations would result in the buses being seized.
Vehicles parked on the Begumpul–Kutchery route were also penalised. The SP Traffic questioned the contractor managing the parking site on the driveway path after noticing motorcycles parked on the road. The contractor claimed that the Municipal Corporation had allowed parking on a section of the path. Expressing dissatisfaction, the SP Traffic sent a letter to the Municipal Commissioner seeking clarification on parking permissions.
The drive also highlighted issues near Kesarganj, where soil and debris from drain excavation had narrowed the already-congested road. SP Traffic Mishra summoned the contractor and directed the immediate removal of the dumped soil. Shopkeepers complained that the debris had been lying there for several days. Photographs of the site were sent to the Municipal Commissioner and the SSP for further action.
“Encroachment had resumed on Delhi Road, so a drive was conducted from Mehtab Cinema to Football Roundabout. Vehicles parked on the road were fined, and shopkeepers were warned. Repeat violations will lead to FIRs. The drive will continue,” said Raghvendra Mishra, SP Traffic.
