In a significant move to ease traffic congestion in Meerut, officials are advancing plans to relocate the Bhaisali bus stand outside the city. The decision was discussed in a high-level meeting on Friday at the Commissionerate auditorium, attended by the Commissioner and Roadways officials.

During the meeting, it was announced that layouts for two new bus terminals, to be located at Meerut South and Palheda, have been prepared and sent to the headquarters for final approval. Each of these new facilities will be constructed on a 1.5-hectare plot of land.

The new terminals will segregate bus routes to streamline traffic flow:

Palheda Bus Stand: Will operate services for northern destinations, including Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Haridwar and Dehradun.

Meerut South Bus Stand: Will manage routes towards Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Ajmer and Haryana.

Officials have also planned for some buses to pass through both new stands to ensure connectivity.

The relocation is being prioritised to address the severe traffic issues caused by the current Bhaisali bus stand, which handles a daily volume of 800 to 1,000 buses from the Meerut and Bhaisali depots, as well as from other districts.
