An accused suspect in the murder of a cab driver was injured and arrested following a police encounter in Lucknow on Friday night. The arrested individual has been identified as Ajay Singh alias Amarjeet, a resident of Pihani in Hardoi, who has six prior criminal cases registered against him.

The incident is connected to the brutal murder of 27-year-old cab driver Yogesh Kumar, a resident of Vadar Kheda. Kumar was reportedly abducted after his cab was booked from the Para area. The assailants took him to Sitapur, where he was murdered, and they subsequently stole his car. His body was later discovered in bushes.

According to DCP West Vishwajeet Srivastava, the police received a tip-off on Friday that the suspects were attempting to sell the stolen vehicle in another state. Acting on this information, a joint team of the Para police and the Crime Branch set up a checkpoint near the Agra Expressway underpass.

When officers spotted the suspicious car and tried to intercept it, the accused attempted to flee, colliding with a road divider in the process. Following the crash, both occupants opened fire on the police. The driver managed to escape under the cover of gunfire. In the retaliatory firing by the police, the second suspect, Ajay Singh, was shot in the leg and apprehended.
