A 7th-grade student’s love for momo turned costly for his family, leading to the loss of jewellery worth nearly Rs 85 lakh in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. The boy’s father, Vimlesh Mishra, later filed a written complaint with the police, naming the three accused, prompting authorities to launch a detailed investigation.

What began as an innocent craving for food quickly turned into a case of manipulation. According to the NDT, three men running a local momo stall allegedly lured the boy by offering “free momo” and gradually persuaded him to bring jewellery from home in exchange.

Vimlesh Mishra, a temple priest from Varanasi, said his son was very fond of momo. The accused allegedly exploited this habit, convincing the child that bringing jewellery from home would earn him free momo. Over time, the boy handed over several pieces of valuable jewellery to the stall owners.

The shocking truth emerged when Vimlesh’s sister visited the house and asked for her jewellery. Upon opening the cupboard, the family discovered it was empty. When questioned, the boy confessed that he had given all the jewellery to the momo sellers in return for free momo.

In a separate incident, The district administration has invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against Farukh, 45, in connection with a triple murder case in Shamli district, officials said on Sunday. Farukh was arrested on December 17 last year for allegedly killing his wife and two minor daughters in Ghari Daulat village, Kandhla. 

The NSA allows authorities to detain individuals without formal charges for up to a year to prevent actions that may disturb public order. Shamli Superintendent of Police N P Singh confirmed that the NSA was applied to Farukh on Saturday.

According to police, Farukh allegedly shot his wife, Tahira, and one daughter, and later strangled the other daughter following a family dispute, before burying the bodies inside the house to destroy evidence. After his arrest, the bodies were recovered, and Farukh is currently lodged in jail. A sessions court has also rejected his bail plea, while further legal procedures under the NSA are underway.
