The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) started the tender process for two flyover projects on Kanpur Road, which are estimated to be worth Rs 144 crore. The project was at standstill for 18 years due to objections from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian  Army.

One of the flyovers will be a three-layer bridge at the intersection connecting Kanpur Road to Gwalior and Shivpuri Road, where traffic congestion and untoward accidents are common.

The AAI had raised objections to the original design of the flyover in 2006, as it was coming on the runway of the army airport. After years of negotiations, the Army agreed to a revised design, paving the way for the project to resume.

The other flyover will be a one-kilometre-long bridge from Medical Tiraha to Kochhabhanwar, which will provide a permanent solution to the traffic problem at the Medical College intersection on Kanpur Road.

The two flyovers are expected to ease the traffic flow and improve the connectivity on Kanpur Road, which is one of the busiest highways in the state.
