Amid rising pollution levels, construction and demolition activities remain banned under GRAP-3 in the city. However, following complaints of ongoing work at JP Wishtown, the District Magistrate ordered an on-site inspection, during which more than 2,000 workers were found engaged at various project sites.
A joint team from the district and tehsil administration, along with officials of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), inspected multiple locations in JP Wishtown. The team found construction work underway despite the GRAP-3 restrictions. Dust accumulation and loose soil were also observed at the site, contributing to deteriorating air quality.

Taking action, fines of Rs 50 lakh each were imposed on projects in Sectors 128, 131, 133 and 134, totalling Rs 2 crore. A warning was also issued to ensure strict compliance with restrictions. Suraksha Realty is currently responsible for completing the unfinished projects in JP Wishtown, where residents had earlier lodged several complaints about violations.
A JP Infratech spokesperson said the company was not aware of the GRAP-related action taken by authorities.
A penalty of Rs 1 lakh had already been imposed on Thursday for negligence and repeated rule violations during construction in the same township. Despite this, fresh violations were detected during the latest inspection.

District Magistrate Gautam Buddh Nagar, Medha Rupam, said, “The team was instructed to investigate the complaint and take necessary action. Action has been taken at JP Wishtown following the investigation.”
