Noida International Airport crossed a critical threshold on Tuesday as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) successfully calibrated the Instrument Landing System (ILS) on Runway 28, paving the way for commercial operations.
An AAI calibration aircraft touched down smoothly on the eastern end of Runway 28 in the afternoon, testing the localizer and glide path systems. All navigation, communication, surveillance, and air traffic automation systems performed flawlessly, adhering to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.
Data collected during the flight has been compiled into a detailed report, which will now be submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
This follows last week’s successful landing on Runway 10 (western end), conducted on Friday after Thursday’s attempt was aborted due to adverse weather.
Noida Airport Update: Runway 10 Landing Already Achieved
The AAI aircraft had flown in from Delhi on Friday and executed a textbook landing on Runway 10, marking the first calibration flight. Tuesday’s exercise on Runway 28 completed the dual-runway validation process.
Jewar Airport: Night Operations To Follow
Once the DGCA reviews the calibration reports and issues the aerodrome license, expected later this month, flight services can commence. Initial operations will be limited to daytime domestic passenger and cargo flights, likely starting in December. Night flying will be introduced after equipment reliability and operational procedures are fully validated.
