In a major move to enhance security around Noida International Airport, a structural audit of all existing and future buildings in the area will now be mandatory. Newly constructed buildings will be issued completion certificates only after passing the structural audit, officials said.

The decision was taken during the 86th board meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Industries and YEIDA Chairman Alok Kumar on Saturday. It also includes amendments to building bylaws for Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Authority (YEIDA) areas.

The step comes as preparations are underway to commence air services from the airport, and concerns over structural safety have intensified following a recent plane crash in Ahmedabad. According to YEIDA CEO Rakesh Kumar Singh, the authority has adopted the structural audit policy of Noida Authority. A panel comprising representatives from IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, NIA, Central University, and CSIR will conduct the audits. Existing buildings in the YEIDA area will also fall under this audit.

Additionally, building bylaws will be amended to define height restrictions in color-coded zones within a 20 km radius of the airport to ensure aircraft safety. A consultancy agency will assess parameters such as permissible height and ground coverage.

A joint committee of Noida, Greater Noida, and YEIDA authorities will review the recommendations and prepare a framework for bylaw amendments, which will then be submitted for government approval.

Currently, the maximum permitted height in the YEIDA area is 24 meters, with higher structures requiring permission from the Airports Authority of India. Under the revised bylaws, construction up to the prescribed height will be allowed during map approval, ensuring the safety of both aircraft and building occupants.
