The deadline for builders to deposit their dues under the government's relief package has expired. In response, the Noida Authority has sent reminder notices to the owners of 43 builder projects.
The Authority may withdraw the relief package as soon as the board minutes are received from the government. Furthermore, officials stated that Recovery Certificates (RCs) will be issued against the developers of projects who have not deposited the required funds.
Background Of The Relief Package
Noida Authority officials explained that the UP government had issued a government order on December 21, 2023, based on the recommendations of the Amitabh Kant committee. Following this, the Authority included 57 builder projects in the first phase, selecting only those whose cases were not pending in any court. These 57 projects owe the Authority approximately Rs 5,500 crore.
Widespread Non-Compliance
Builders began depositing their dues from March-April 2024, but compliance has stalled:
- 35 builders, who had deposited the required 25 per cent of their total dues to join the package, are now failing to pay their subsequent instalments.
- 12 builders have deposited only a portion of their outstanding amount.
- 10 builders have not deposited any dues at all.
- This violates the terms, which included a requirement for builders with dues up to Rs100 crore to deposit the full amount within one year.
In a recent board meeting, the Authority's Chairman, Deepak Kumar, had given the builders a final deadline of October 31 to deposit the money. As a result of the non-payment, the relief package has been terminated for these builders. A final decision regarding the status of the relief package will be taken upon receiving instructions at the government level.
