Noida, Ghaziabad Water Crisis: Residents of Noida and Ghaziabad are bracing for water shortages starting today, October 13, as the supply of Ganga water is halted for 20 days. This disruption is necessary for annual maintenance on the upper Ganga canal in Haridwar, with full service expected to resume on November 2. Approximately 1 million residents will be affected by this interruption.
Ghaziabad, Noida Water Supply Disruption
The Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department has announced the temporary suspension of Ganga water supply, impacting areas including Indirapuram, Vasundhara, Vaishali and Delta Colony. Local authorities, such as the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), are implementing alternative arrangements to provide water during this period.

According to a Economic Times report, water will be supplied in the mornings at low pressure, leading to reduced availability for residents. Areas like Indirapuram's Abhay Khand, Nyay Khand, Gyan Khand and various sectors of Vasundhara are expected to face challenges. Some residents are already experiencing low water pressure due to existing transformer issues.
Noida, Ghaziabad Water Shortage: Impacted Residents
In Vasundhara Sector 9, some residents have resorted to buying bottled water to manage the shortage. Additionally, broken pipelines in areas like Kaushambi and Vasundhara Sector 10 have worsened the situation, leaving certain locations without any water supply.
Given this extended disruption, residents are urged to conserve water and seek alternative sources where possible. Authorities anticipate that the Ganga water supply will be restored once maintenance work is completed on November 2.
