Police in Noida and Greater Noida have filed 19 FIRs against parents for children seen driving or riding vehicles in violation of traffic laws in the last three days, according to authorities on Friday.

They claimed nine FIRs were filed on Friday, five each on Thursday and Wednesday, under the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to a senior official, the FIRs were largely registered under BNS Section 125 (whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and relevant Motor Vehicles Act provisions such as Section 207 (power to detain vehicles used without a certificate of registration, permit, etc.).

"Nine such FIRs were lodged on Friday, and five each on Thursday and Wednesday, totalling 19 such cases in three days in which underage drivers/riders were found in violation of the law," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav told PTI.

On July 9, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate strongly cautioned parents about underage driving.

The police warned that they would fine minors who disobeyed the restrictions up to Rs 25,000, take legal action against their parents or guardians, suspend their vehicle registration for a year, and prevent them from getting a license till they are 25.

In light of many occurrences involving minors in Noida, Greater Noida, and other areas of the nation, the police claimed that this action is part of a larger campaign to promote road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

To maintain road safety, DCP Yadav also encouraged commuters to abide by traffic regulations.
