In a fresh development in the Noida engineer death case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has sought written responses from four departments of the Noida Development Authority, while the accused builder has been sent to judicial custody. Engineer Yuvraj Mehta died after his car fell into a water-filled pit in the basement of an under-construction builder project. The CJM court has remanded builder Abhay to judicial custody till January 27, and forensic and technical teams examined the site and the vehicle on Wednesday.
SIT Question Need To Answer By Noida Authority
The SIT has questioned the authority’s civil, planning, Noida Traffic Cell (NTC), and water and sewer departments, seeking clarity on lapses in construction, drainage maintenance, traffic safety, and project planning. Officials have been asked how a builder allotted 1.3 million square metres of land allegedly split it into 21 plots, and how Occupation and Completion Certificates were issued despite missing basic amenities. The water department has also been asked to explain the absence of a proper drainage system at the site.
The probe has further raised questions on why senior authority officials did not visit the site after the incident, why repeated letters from the affected society went unanswered, and what steps are being taken to prevent similar accidents. The SIT has also sought explanations on non-functional streetlights, missing plot ownership data, delays in project completion without cancellation of allotment, overlooked dark spots during surveys, and the authority’s response to complaints filed through the IGRS system.
Noida Techie Death Updates
1. The Grand Vitara SUV driven by 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, which skidded in dense fog and fell into a nearly 20-foot-deep water-filled construction pit in Noida’s Sector 150, was recovered with a crane on Tuesday evening.
2. Fresh FIR filed at Knowledge Park PS, Greater Noida over a death at a construction site. Five, Abhay, Sanjay, Manish, Achal, Nirmal, booked under Environmental Protection Act, Water Pollution Act, and relevant IPC/BNS sections.
3. Police arrested named accused builder Abhay Kumar, CEO of MZ Wiztown Planners Limited, after registering an FIR under sections related to negligence, culpable homicide not amounting to murder and endangering life, following a complaint by the victim’s father against Wishtown Planners and Lotus Greens.
4. A delivery boy, a key eyewitness, alleged that police officers pressured him to stay away from the media for 10 days, while CM Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident on Monday and ordered swift action.
5. The Uttar Pradesh government constituted a three-member SIT led by the ADG Zone Meerut to probe the case and removed the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority; earlier, Traffic Cell Junior Engineer Naveen Kumar was dismissed.
6. It emerged that the UP Irrigation Department had warned the Noida Authority nearly three years ago about the dangerous drainage ditch, with local residents also complaining twice about poor infrastructure and risks at the site, including a sharp 90-degree turn.
7. Questions over road design and negligence have been highlighted by comparisons to other accident-prone sites such as Dehradun’s Balliwala flyover and the Bhandari Bagh Railway Overbridge, both known for deadly sharp curves that authorities failed to rectify.
