The UP Police have launched a district-wide initiative to track and monitor known criminals under Operation Nigrani, spearheaded by Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya in Barabanki. As part of this 10-day operation, police stations across the district reviewed crime records from the past 10 years. Through this process, 955 criminals were identified, including 359 habitual offenders who will now be monitored closely, similar to history-sheeters.

The SP has compiled detailed data on serious crimes such as robbery, murder, dacoity, cow slaughter, and burglary committed between 2014 and 2024. The data reveals 63 robbers, 38 murderers, 181 cow slaughter accused, 214 involved in dacoity, and 459 in burglary—all with five or more cases registered against them. From this list, 359 individuals have been flagged for active surveillance.

Each police station has received a list of these offenders and has been directed to assess their current activities. If any of them are found to be engaged in criminal acts again, a history sheet will be opened and action will be taken under the Gangster Act.

The data, compiled using CCTNS, has also led to the identification of around 20 criminals who have no registered cases in Barabanki but have 30 to 40 cases in neighboring districts. These individuals will also be monitored across jurisdictions where cases exist.

“A list of criminals involved in serious crimes from 2014 to 2024, with five or more registered cases, has been prepared. Among them, 359 individuals are under watch. If they are found indulging in any criminal activity, history sheets will be opened and appropriate legal action, including under the Gangster Act, will follow,” said Arpit Vijayvargiya, Superintendent of Police.
