The Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Board has provided significant relief to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) beneficiaries. If a beneficiary's PMAY allocation is canceled due to financial constraints or other reasons, they can now reclaim it within one year by paying the full amount, as long as the unit hasn't been reallocated.

The previous one-month time limit for reclaiming canceled PMAY units has been extended to one year from the date of cancellation. This decision was made during the 271 board meeting chaired by Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Planning, P Guruprasad.

The board recognized that many beneficiaries are from low-income backgrounds and often face difficulties in raising the required funds within a short timeframe. Applicants seeking to reclaim their PMAY units must pay the full amount, including interest, penalties, and registration fees.

The board has canceled over 400 allocations in recent months, and those affected can now attempt to reclaim their units within a year of the cancellation date. Special camps are also being organized by the board to address PMAY-related issues.

Additionally, the board has revised the rules for government and semi-government institutions that have been allotted land on lease. Previously, these institutions could extend their construction deadline beyond the initial five-year period by paying 40 per cent of the auction price for an extension of up to 15 years. Now, they can extend the deadline further by paying 10 per cent of the auction price per year after the 15 year.
