In a shocking development, Ram Mandir Trust in Ayodhya received a suspicious email warning about a security threat to the temple. Soon after the mail was received, police were alerted and an investigation was started, a senior police official said on Monday.
The police have not shared detailed information about the threatening mail. However, they said that an individual from Tamil Nadu wrote the email in English.
As per reports, the temple trust received the email on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Until now, no official communique has been issued either by the Ram Temple Trust or the security agencies.
It is not the isolated incident when threats were issued against the Ram Mandir. Earlier on February 18, police intercepted a drone camera flying over the temple route during the trials of an anti-drone system. They shot it down immediately.
The police also registered an FIR at Ram Janmabhoomi police station, calling it a deep conspiracy to create chaos and unrest at the temple. However, even then, the police had given limited details and had said that a probe was on in the case.
As per reports, the conspirator was later identified to be from Gurugram. The bomb disposal squad officials were called in, who examined the drone camera and confirmed that there was no security threat.
The latest development comes amid the rise in the influx of devotees, given which, the police have ramped up security. The security architecture for both general and VIP visitors has been tightened. An additional 3,000 personnel have been deployed to deal with a surge in devotees.
10 new baggage scanners, 25 DFMDs, five drones, handheld metal detectors, and other surveillance tools have been deployed. The installations have been deployed strategically along the Ram Janmabhoomi path and at VIP entry gates 2 (Rangmahal barrier) and 3 (Ram Path). Notably, Gate 3, which previously lacked a baggage scanner, has now been equipped with one.
