The atmosphere in Rampur changed drastically after the confirmation of deaths following the tragic accident. While people were initially focused on rushing the injured to the hospital, the situation turned volatile once news spread about the demise of the auto-rickshaw driver, Bhagwan Das, and a teenager named Prince. Local residents erupted in anger; hundreds gathered at the spot within moments and began vandalising the Scorpio.
Crowd Outrage And Police Response
According to eyewitnesses, the police had taken all the injured persons and the Scorpio driver to the hospital immediately after the accident. At that time, the locals were unaware that two people had lost their lives. Outrage spread among the crowd when information arrived from the hospital shortly after that the auto driver and the teenager had succumbed to their injuries.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, officials immediately deployed additional forces to the spot. Police from the Cantt station, along with the Kotwali Circle force, reached Rampur. Police officials pacified the crowd by assuring them of strict action. Subsequently, the police seized the Scorpio and brought the situation under control. Normalcy was restored after about an hour of effort.
Mourning At The Auto Driver’s Home
40-year-old Bhagwan Das Paswan, who lost his life in the accident, was a resident of Dibhiya Cantt and supported his family by driving a tempo. He is survived by his wife, Deepmala, and four minor sons—Sunny, Samir, Shlok, and Kunal. A pall of gloom descended on his home as soon as the news of his death arrived. His wife and children are inconsolable. Neighbors stated that Bhagwan Das was the sole breadwinner of the family.
Accused Driver Suffered From Neuro-Related Illness
Sanjay Singh, who was driving the Scorpio, was a resident of Palm Paradise, while his brother’s family resides in Bilandpur. Family members revealed that Sanjay Singh was suffering from a neuro-related illness and was involved in the scrap business. He has two sons; one lives in London and the other in Bengaluru. According to his family, Sanjay had left home to visit a friend when the incident occurred.
