The Uttar Pradesh government decided to establish Pink Booths at 20 religious sites in nine districts as part of the Safe City project, which aims to ensure the safety and security of women and children. A proposal of Rs 1.66 crore was submitted by the Home Department for the creation of these booths, which will be managed by women-beat constables.
The Safe City project will be executed in three phases within the state, covering a total of 217 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar. The initial phase will involve 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar, where 1,100 women beat constables will receive electric two-wheeler scooters within the next three months.
The cities where the Pink Booths will be built in the first phase are Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Mathura, Gorakhpur, Agra, Balrampur and Chitrakoot. These booths will provide a safe and comfortable space for women and children to report any issues or seek help.

The second phase of setting up pink booths will extend to 57 district headquarters and municipal corporations while the third phase will involve the incorporation of 143 municipal corporations into the Safe City Project.

The additional DG of Women and Child Safety Protection BP Jogdand said the Pink Booths will be equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, first-aid kits and other facilities. The Safe City project will enhance the visibility and accessibility of women police personnel in public places, he added as reported by the news agency IANS.
