For those planning to buy gold on Dhanteras but are constrained by a budget, the bullion market has introduced special options this year. You can now purchase a completely pure gold coin for as little as Rs 1,500, a price even lower than some silver items.
To cater to every budget, jewellery shops are offering gold coins in a wide range of weights, from 100 milligrams to 100 grams.
While the tradition on Dhanteras has been to buy Victorian silver coins and idols of Lakshmi-Ganesh, there has been a significant shift towards purchasing gold in recent years, as it is considered a safe investment. With the prices of both gold and silver being high this year, bullion traders have introduced a variety of low-weight gold jewellery and coins to ensure they remain affordable.
Market Trends And Popular Items
Lightweight and Diamond Jewellery: Anoop Saraf, Director of Aisshpra Gems And Jewels, noted that many people are pre-booking jewellery as a good omen (shagun) for the upcoming wedding season. To make Dhanteras special, lightweight gold items like studs and nose pins are readily available. There is also a growing inclination towards diamond jewellery.
Sanjay Agarwal, Director of Parampara Gems And Jewels, added that the demand for rose gold-polished jewellery and diamond pieces with a reddish hue has increased significantly. For the wedding season, customers are also drawn to saffron-coloured gold jewellery and Italian chains in white gold.
Idols And Silverware
- Gold idols of Mahalakshmi and Ganesh, weighing between 15 and 50 grams, are proving to be very popular.
- In silver, there is high demand for Lakshmi-Ganesh idols ranging from 50 to 250 grams.
- Other popular silver items include Kuber Yantras, tortoises, anklets, toe rings, glasses, handmade idols, and silver currency notes.
Advice For Buyers And Market Conditions
Rajesh Saraf of Kashmir Jewellers observed that customers are demanding lighter-weight items this year compared to previous years. He strongly advised all customers to check for the hallmark before buying any gold item to ensure its purity.
Silver Shortage: Due to a rise in prices, bullion traders in the city are facing a shortage of silver.
- Traders are sourcing silver from Jaipur and Agra to meet the demand.
- There are delays in supply, with deliveries taking at least a week even after payment.
- It is estimated that only half of the required silver coins and jewellery are available to meet the current demand, particularly for corporate gifting to staff.
