A major accident took place early Tuesday near the Araul Cut on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway when a private bus travelling from Delhi to Siwan (Bihar) overturned at around 3:20 AM, killing three people, including a five-year-old child, and injuring 24 passengers. The injured include residents of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana.

According to preliminary police findings, speeding, dense fog, and driver drowsiness are suspected to have caused the crash. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver appeared fatigued, causing the bus to hit the central divider and overturn. During the incident, there were 45 passengers in the bus.

As the bus overturned, panic ensued, with several passengers trapped under seats and shattered glass. Police from Bilhaur station, the UPDA patrol team, and local administration rushed to the spot. Rescue personnel used cutting machines to break open windows and pull out those trapped. All injured passengers were taken by ambulance to Hallet Hospital, Kanpur, where some remain in serious condition. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.

SDM Bilhaur Sanjeev Kumar Dixit confirmed the deaths of Anurag (5), son of Ajay from Siwan; Naseem Alam (30) from East Champaran; and Shashi Giri (26) from Mirpur, Siwan. The deceased child’s mother, Guddi Devi, suffered a leg amputation and remains in critical condition, while his father, Ajay and two sisters sustained minor injuries.

Passengers from four states were injured:

-Bihar: 15 passengers

-Uttar Pradesh: 4 passengers

-Delhi: 3 passengers

-Haryana: 1 passenger

On instructions from District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, administrative and police teams supervised the rescue, removed the overturned bus with a crane, and restored traffic on the expressway. Treatment of the injured is ongoing.
