Uttar Pradesh Moonrise Timing Today: Karwa Chauth, also known as Karak Chaturthi, is a significant Hindu festival predominantly observed by married women in India. Karwa Chauth is being celebrated today, October 10. Women observe a day-long fast from sunrise to moonrise, praying for health, happiness and longevity of their husbands.

Dressed in vibrant red sarees and adorned with bangles, vermilion and traditional jewellery, women celebrate Karwa Chauth with deep devotion. They observe a fast from sunrise to moonrise, and when the moon rises, they view it through a sieve, offer water to the moon god and break their fast by receiving water from their husbands. The fast concludes with the evening puja ceremony, marking the end of the day’s rituals.

About Karwa Chauth Rituals

The day begins with sargi, a pre-dawn meal traditionally prepared by mothers-in-law and consumed before sunrise. This is followed by a day-long fast, in which women abstain from food and water as an act of deep devotion.

In the evening, dressed in traditional attire, they gather for evening puja and recite folk tales associated with Veeravati, Karwa, and Savitri. The fast concludes with a moonrise ritual, in which women view the moon through a sieve, offer prayers and break the day-long fast after receiving the first sip of water or a morsel of food from their husbands.
