Uttar Pradesh's agricultural universities are poised to offer online professional courses, catering not only to traditional students but also to working professionals. Under the National Education Policy, several new online professional courses may be introduced in these universities, potentially starting from the new academic session. This initiative has been recommended by the Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Research Council.

These courses will cover subjects such as Remote Sensing, Agricultural Journalism, Environmental Studies, Gardening, Artificial Insemination, and Animal Breeding. They are being designed to be accessible to students from both agricultural and non-agricultural backgrounds, as well as to working professionals. This initiative is being undertaken in government agricultural universities in Meerut, Kanpur, Banda, and Ayodhya, as well as in a deemed Agricultural University.

Regular students can choose these courses as electives, while professionals can also enroll. The Uttar Pradesh Department of Agriculture has sought suggestions from universities on this proposal. These courses are expected to create new employment and self-employment opportunities for youth in the agricultural sector.

Subjects like Remote Sensing and Insemination will connect students with modern agricultural technologies. Along with traditional studies, these courses will focus on developing practical skills.

Online access will make these courses easily accessible to students in rural areas as well. Prof Rakesh Singh Sengar from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut believes that such online courses will also benefit those who do not come from an agricultural background but wish to work in this field.
