Taking a firm stance against environmental pollution, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed state officials to reduce incidents of stubble burning to 'zero' by the 2025-26 financial year. Detailed guidelines have been issued through a government order to ensure strict compliance.

The Chief Minister emphasised that stubble burning significantly increases air pollution and poses a serious threat to public health. He called for a concerted effort to educate farmers about alternative methods for managing crop residue.

Strict Penalties And Enforcement

To deter the practice, the government has mandated the imposition of an "environmental compensation" fine on anyone found burning crop residue. The fine structure is as follows:

- For areas less than 2 acres: Rs 2,500

- For areas between 2 and 5 acres: Rs 5,000

- For areas more than 5 acres: Rs 15,000

Officials have been instructed to stop any instances of stubble burning on the spot and ensure the immediate imposition of these fines.

Robust Monitoring Mechanism

A multi-level monitoring and enforcement strategy has been put in place:

Satellite Monitoring: All District Magistrates have been ordered to continuously monitor stubble burning incidents via satellite, with a special focus on sensitive districts and identified hotspots.

Nodal Officers: A nodal officer will be appointed for every 50 to 100 farmers to ensure prevention at the grassroots level.

Multi-Departmental Teams: At the time of harvest, personnel from the Revenue, Police, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj departments will conduct monitoring at the district, tehsil, and block levels.
