Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday reviewed the comprehensive urban development plans for Meerut, Kanpur, and Mathura-Vrindavan, emphasising that the transformation of these cities must go beyond roads and buildings to reflect a balanced blend of local identity, heritage, culture, and modern amenities. He directed officials to ensure phased implementation, timely completion, and high-quality work so citizens experience direct benefits.

During the meeting, held via video conferencing, Divisional Commissioners of the three divisions presented detailed action plans. Officials informed that on the lines of Ayodhya, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Prayagraj, an integrated development model is being adopted for these cities. A total of 478 projects have been proposed, 111 in Meerut, 109 in Kanpur, and 258 in Mathura-Vrindavan, categorised into short-, medium, and long-term plans with fixed timelines.

In the first phase, work will begin on:

-11 priority projects in Meerut

-13 in Kanpur

-14 in Mathura-Vrindavan

These include initiatives focused on traffic decongestion, intersection redevelopment, multi-level parking, green spaces, road and footpath upgrades, undergrounding of electric wires, water management, tourism enhancement, and urban beautification.

City-Wise Development Highlights

For improved mobility in Meerut, proposals include the Bijli Bamba Bypass (to be explored under PPP mode like the Lucknow Green Corridor), a link road, widening of major stretches from Hapur Adda to Gandhi Ashram, upgradation of Eastern Kutchery Road and Surajkund Chauraha, redevelopment of 19 intersections, Sanjay Van improvement, a smart road, and a water recycling system from Shatabdi Nagar STP to Mohkampur industrial area.

Development in Kanpur will be guided by the theme “Rooted in Legacy, Rising to Tomorrow.” The plan includes widening Mainawati Marg, creating multi-level parking, developing master plan roads, urban design improvements around Green Park, Maqsoodabad City Forest, a botanical garden, VIP Road upgrades, a riverfront link, a greenfield corridor, metro expansion, and planning for Greater Kanpur as a new extension area.

Under the Vision-2030 plan for Mathura-Vrindavan, projects focus on improving pilgrim and tourist facilities. These include façade development, multi-level parking, bus parking, beautification of entry gates, construction of new routes, enhancement of the Barsana-Govardhan-Radhakund corridor, facilities along the Parikrama Marg, and upgraded signage and lighting systems from city entry points to major spiritual sites.

The Chief Minister directed officials to prioritise innovation, efficient management, and strong financial coordination. He asked departments to seek private sector participation through revenue-sharing and adopt PPP models wherever feasible. He added that additional budgetary support will be provided as needed.

CM Yogi stated that the ultimate goal is to develop cities that are traffic-efficient, pedestrian- and public-transport-friendly, greener, and reflective of local heritage.
