As part of its preparations for the upcoming Panchayat and Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has intensified efforts to strengthen its organisational structure by addressing weak links at the district level. On Wednesday, the party dissolved its Kushinagar unit, retaining only the district president. This move follows a similar decision in Agra, where the party had recently dissolved the entire executive body—from the main organisation to frontal units—due to internal shortcomings.

Party sources say SP is focused on reinforcing its grassroots presence, especially at the booth level. However, in several districts, organisational work has not met expectations. Consequently, the leadership has begun restructuring efforts to fix internal inefficiencies.

In Agra, the district office’s electricity connection was recently severed due to unpaid bills, raising questions about the functioning of the local unit. This was followed by the dissolution of all key executive bodies in the district, although new responsibilities are yet to be allocated.

A similar step was taken in Kushinagar following the recent demise of District President Mohammad Shukrullah. Former MLC Ram Avadh Yadav has been appointed as the new district president. State President Shyamlal Pal has since dissolved the district executive, including Vidhan Sabha constituency presidents and other frontal organisation heads, while retaining the new district chief.
