Uttar Pradesh is set to emerge as a major hub for aircraft maintenance and repair, with the state government extending the deadline for investment applications under its Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) policy till December 31, 2025.
The move aims to attract fresh investment into the aviation maintenance sector, boosting employment opportunities for youth and reducing the need to send aircraft to international destinations like Singapore and Dubai for repairs.

Introduced in 2022, the state’s MRO policy under the Civil Aviation Department offers a range of incentives to investors in the aircraft maintenance sector. The initial deadline for investment proposals under this policy was December 31, 2023.
Additional Chief Secretary SP Goyal has directed the Director of Civil Aviation to act on the extended timeline. The government is focused on developing state-of-the-art MRO hubs near regional airports, in line with the country's growing aviation needs—nearly 1,000 new aircraft are expected to be added to India’s fleet by next year.
Officials say this initiative will not only generate significant revenue for the state but also cut down repair costs and create thousands of jobs.
