In a move to strengthen the fisheries sector in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has initiated renovation work worth Rs 912.76 lakh for four major fish hatcheries located in Gorakhpur, Basti, Ayodhya, and Amethi. The foundation stone for the project was laid on Wednesday by Fisheries Development Minister Dr Sanjay Kumar Nishad at a ceremony held at the Directorate of Fisheries.

During the event, the minister also inaugurated the renovation of the Fisheries Directorate building, which will be carried out at a cost of Rs 29.94 lakh. A new digital portal was launched to streamline and bring transparency to the auctioning process of rivers and reservoirs across the state.

In addition, two key publications were released: a training manual covering 15 technical topics related to fisheries and an informational booklet about the Fisheries Development Corporation.
Allotment letters for river and reservoir auctions were distributed to nine entrepreneurs from the Uttar Pradesh Matsyajivi Sahakari Sangh. The cooperative body also handed over a dividend cheque of Rs 1.65 crore to the state government.
