UP Flood Alert: The continuous rainfall in Uttar Pradesh has led to a significant surge in the water level of the rivers and other water bodies of the state. The surge in water levels has caused flood-like situations in several districts, including Prayagraj and Varanasi. Several districts of the western region of the state are also facing similar issues where several people are fleeing their homes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday stated that the major portion of the state is likely to receive light to heavy rainfall for the next few days.
While providing details, the officials stated that the water level of the Ganga River has reached above the danger mark. They further stated that the surge in water level has caused flood-like situations in multiple western districts. The officials further stated that many families have been directed to leave the village and live on the embankment. The authorities have advised the farmers to limit their financial activities and not hide beneath big trees or electricity poles during rainfall.
However, less rainfall in the past few days has provided a temporary relief to the administration and the residents of these regions. Prayagraj DM Manish Verma stated that the water level has reduced in the past few days, adding that around 8,000 people are residing in the shelter homes currently.
"The water level has started to reduce in the Ganga as well as the Yamuna, and we believe that if there is no rain in the upcoming days, the situation will be normal. Our relief camps are working continuously. Around 8,000 people are in the shelter homes... Enough teams of NDRS and SDRF are deployed... Medical teams have also been deployed... The situation is fine, and we hope that there will be further improvement," Verma was quoted as saying by ANI.
