The construction of two major bridges in the city—a new Railway Overbridge (ROB) near Jarib Chowki and a parallel Ganga bridge in Shuklaganj—is set to commence in August. The tenders for both projects will be finalised on July 23 and 28, respectively.
The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned a total budget of Rs 520 crore for these projects. Of this, Rs 320 crore has been allocated for the Jarib Chowki ROB alone, for which Rs 112.21 crore has already been released as the first instalment. Meanwhile, preparations for the Ganga bridge are also underway.

For the ROB construction near Jarib Chowki, 3,700 square meters of land will be acquired, impacting 84 buildings, including 12 temples that are set to be relocated. Land has been identified in multiple directions from the intersection—towards Fazalganj, Ghantaghar, Ramadevi, and Gol Chauraha. The acquisition will include one to four-storey buildings.
According to officials from Setu Nigam, the Public Works Department and the Revenue Department will carry out the land acquisition process. As per government rules, compensation in urban areas will be double the District Magistrate (DM) circle rate. With the current circle rate in the Jarib Chowki area at Rs 64,500 per square meter, compensation is expected to exceed Rs 50 crore.
For the Ganga bridge, land acquisition will follow the terms of an earlier agreement made with the Ordnance Equipment Factory (OEF).
Dharamveer Singh, General Manager of Setu Nigam Headquarters, stated that the district administration has been asked to speed up land acquisition to ensure the timely start of construction. “Once the tenders are finalised, work on both bridges will begin immediately,” he said.
These infrastructure projects are expected to significantly ease congestion and improve connectivity across key parts of the city.
