A significant number of private hospitals across Uttar Pradesh have been found functioning without valid registration certificates, a concerning revelation that surfaced during the scrutiny of applications submitted for empanelment under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

According to officials from the State Health Agency (SHAS), many hospitals applying for the first time to be included in the scheme were found to have expired registration documents — some of which lapsed as early as March and April this year.

Chief Executive Officer of SHAS, Archana Verma, has directed all Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) to immediately initiate the process of renewing registrations in their respective districts and issue updated certificates. This is aimed at expediting the processing of hospital applications under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Further tightening the administration, Director General of Medical and Health, Dr Ratanpal Singh Suman, has instructed CMOs to identify and take strict action against hospitals that have not applied for registration renewal. “Operations of such hospitals should be halted until proper registration is obtained,” he said.

To address the recurring issue of lapsed registrations, the department has now introduced a five-year online renewal system via the official portal, replacing the previous annual process.

The move is expected to streamline hospital listing procedures and ensure better compliance and monitoring under the national healthcare scheme.
