To intensify its crackdown on food adulteration, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to expand testing services through the Food Safety and Drug Administration’s (FSDA) Food Safety Vans across Uttar Pradesh. A monthly route chart is now being prepared to ensure regular deployment of these vans in markets across districts, enabling on-the-spot testing of food products.
According to Joint Food Safety Commissioner Harishankar Singh, 36 Food Safety Vans are currently operational, stationed at 18 divisional headquarters and six additional major districts. These mobile units provide immediate adulteration testing for products such as milk, khoya, and paneer, and were recently used extensively during the Diwali anti-adulteration campaign.
If a food product is detected as adulterated during a field test, it is destroyed immediately, while samples are sent to accredited laboratories for further examination. The FSDA also retains test reports and sample records for legal action. The facility is open to both consumers and shopkeepers, allowing them to verify the purity of food items or raw materials.
Harishankar Singh stated that public information about the vans’ schedule would be shared through the internet and local media so that more people can access the services.
Under the current allocation:
-Two vans each are operating in Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Agra, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, Varanasi, Aligarh, Moradabad, Meerut, and Jhansi

Officials said the expanded deployment will help detect adulteration at its source and take strict action against offenders.
